Making Trax: Watercolor on Paper
I recently entered the Utah Watercolor Society Fall Show with this image, then waited anxiously for word via email about acceptance. When the promised date came and went with no notice of acceptance, I have to admit I was disappointed. I have always believed in this painting. I believe it tells a story. How many of us have hurried to the train or bus on a frosty morning, only to arrive just a moment too late? The train is "Making TRAX" without us! I felt the same letdown when I realized my painting had not been chosen for the show. Then, this morning, I received a great phone call from Emily Willis of UWS informing me that they had sent several emails to me, without success, to inform me that this painting had, indeed, been accepted into the show. (The consequence of an incorrect email address). I am elated. The Fall show is always juried by a nationally recognized artist, in this case, Donna Zagotta (see www.donnazagotta.com). So, you see, this is a lesson to all of us, artists, writers, whatever our handle, to always, always believe in our work.
On another note, I almost feel guilty for my momentary happiness in the wake of another tragic 9/11 attack on our country; in this case, the death of our ambassador and three others in Libya. Such a tragic event spurred by ignorance, hatred and evil. At this writing, who knows what consequences will follow. Will it even matter that I made it into the Utah Watercolor Society Fall Show? I hope so.
